Applications for Abrasive Sanding Brushes:
White Wood Sanding - Prior to the application of stain, an Abrasive Sanding brush can be used to gently break sharp edges of a part. White wood sanding also removes excess dust from the pores of the wood to better assure stain. When dust is trapped in the pres stain sealer can puddle up on the surface of the wood rather then penetrating the wood evenly. Drag marks can also be removed, prior to finishing, by sanding parts with an Abrasive Brush.
Stain Denibbing - After stain is applied, hair like fibers ("nibs") are raised up in the wood grain. Running parts through an Abrasive Sanding Brush at low RPM's with finer grit can remove the "nibs" prior to applying a base coat of sealer. It is best to remove the nibs before applying a base coat of sealer.
Sealer Sanding - Application of a base coat of sealer raises additional nibs. Excess sealer gives wood a rough or blotchy feel. Abrasive Sanding Brushes can be used to knock down the nibs and sand off excess sealer without breaking through the base coat. "Whiting out" or breaking through on the edges of a part has been avoided by proper WHITE WOOD sanding.
UV Sanding - With the development of Ultra Violet coating systems, wood finishers are looking for a better adhesion between coats of UV finish. Rather than using an Abrasive Sanding Brush to completely smooth out the surface, finishers are looking to lightly scratch the face of the part as well. Microscopic scratches give the topcoat of sealer a suitable surface to bond to. UV sanding generally requires higher brush RPM's with more aggressive brushes compared to most lacquer or solvent coating systems. With proper UV scuffing "Roping" will note occur on the wood surface.
Unique Features:
Long Lasting Sanding Media
- Our Sanding brushes are manufactured using Dupont "Tynex A" abrasive
filaments. The fiber is 70% nylon and 30% silicon carbide or aluminum oxide
abrasive. The abrasive is impregnated throughout the strand of nylon not coated
like conventional sandpaper. As the nylon wears down, new grit is continuously
exposed. We stock material in 500, 320, 240, 180, 120, 80, 60, and 46 grits
respectively.
Patented Bristle Bonding System - Our "Finest" bristle pattern chemically bonds individual strands of abrasive nylon to a metal core. This provides extremely uniform bristle densities and maximum bristle retention compared to Velcro wrap your own systems. Our Abrasive Nylon Sanding Brushes are trimmed and dressed in our plant and are ready for use when received.
Bristle Configurations:
Dense Pattern - These designs are full-face brushes with continuous bristle material. The number of bristles per square inch is maximized. Full-face patterns are most effective for sanding flat stock. A densely filled brush puts more points of contact on the surface being sanded.
Spiral Pattern - These designs have longer bristle and are better suited to sanding irregular surfaces. The individual spiral rows of bristle have relief allowing the brush to bend and conform to raised or recessed areas. Tiny bristle wrap around corners and sand in the smallest profile without loss of detail.
Core Options:
Refillable Stub Shaft - These designs are best suited to applications that require heavy sanding with aggressive grits. The Sanding Brush shafts are shrunk to fit into a heavy wall tube and are welded. These units can be sent back to us for re-trimming or recovering. (Integral Core Design)
Refillable Brush Sleeve
- These designs are best suited to applications that require a quick-change
alternative. The Sanding Brush Sleeve mounts to your existing drive shaft
using taper lock bushing or adapter bushings. These units can also be sent
back for re-trimming or recovering.
(Permanent Arbor Assembly)
Disposable Brush Sleeve
- These designs are best suited to narrow applications like edge sanding and
profile sanding. Brushes are supplied with reusable inserts that adapt units
to Metric and English drive spindles.
(Disposable Sleeve Compression Design)
All designs are balance at your operating speeds to insure vibration less, chatter free performance.
Testing Facilities:
If you are not sure of the proper grit, bristle length, pattern, or brush speed required for your Sanding application, send us samples and we will test your product in our lab. This is the most cost effective means of optimizing the performance of our Abrasive Sanding Brushes. We look forward to your challenge!
